Intel missed the AI accelerator wave — Gaudi underdelivered and Falcon Shores was shelved — while its manufacturing arm races to reclaim process leadership with 18A and its first high-NA EUV tools. 2025 brought extraordinary interventions: a US government equity stake, a $5B NVIDIA investment and partnership to co-design x86 chips with NVLink, and SoftBank money. Xeon still holds the head-node socket in many AI systems, and its foundry ambition remains strategically vital to the US.
