Founded by former OpenAI researchers led by Dario and Daniela Amodei, Anthropic builds the Claude model family with an explicit safety research agenda (constitutional AI, interpretability) and became the enterprise-coding favorite — its Claude Code tool a category of its own. Amazon (~$8B) and Google are its major backers; uniquely, it trains and serves across all three non-NVIDIA-exclusive stacks: AWS Trainium at Project Rainier, Google TPUs (an agreement for up to one million chips, reported), and NVIDIA GPUs. A September 2025 round valued it at $183B (reported).
