Three Mile Island Unit 1 — the undamaged reactor beside the 1979 accident site — shut in 2019 for economics. In September 2024 Constellation announced its restart as the Crane Clean Energy Center under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Microsoft for the full 835 MW output. Work is ahead of the original 2028 schedule, with company statements targeting 2026–27. It is the single clearest symbol of AI demand reversing nuclear's decline.
