The DOE runs the national laboratories that host Frontier and El Capitan, finances the nuclear revival through its Loan Programs Office (Palisades' $1.52B guarantee), and funds advanced-reactor demonstrations (Natrium, Xe-100). In the AI era it is simultaneously a supercomputing operator, an energy financier and — through initiatives like its AI-for-science programs — a major buyer of the same hardware this database tracks.
