Frontier (Oak Ridge)

Data Center Reference Operating Oak Ridge, Tennessee, US

The first exascale computer — public-sector proof of AMD's stack.

You're looking at a data-center record: a real facility — who runs it, what hardware fills it, and where its power comes from.

Frontier at Oak Ridge National Laboratory broke the exascale barrier in 2022: 9,472 nodes of AMD EPYC + MI250X on HPE Cray EX with Slingshot interconnect, ~21 MW at full load. It anchors US open science and showed a full non-NVIDIA stack at the very top of computing.

Specifications & key facts

Each figure is labeled by basis: vendor spec, vendor claim, reported, estimate, or official. "Not publicly disclosed" means exactly that — we never invent values.
