Yann LeCun

Person Researcher

CNN pioneer, Meta's longtime chief scientist — the loyal opposition to LLM orthodoxy.

You're looking at a person record: who they are and the companies, models and ideas they're connected to.

LeCun invented convolutional networks' practical form (1989 digit recognition), shared the 2018 Turing Award, and built Meta's FAIR lab. He argues LLMs alone cannot reach human-level intelligence — world models and new architectures (JEPA) are needed — a stance that culminated in his 2025 departure from Meta to found a world-model startup.
