Concept Hardware & Compute

Power Usage Effectiveness: how much electricity feeds chips vs overhead.

You're looking at a concept explainer: what this term means in plain English, and the records it ties together.

PUE divides total facility power by IT power — 2.0 means half the electricity runs cooling and losses; leading hyperscale halls report ~1.1. Liquid cooling improves it further, but a falling PUE on an exploding IT load still means soaring total demand — efficiency and consumption rising together, the Jevons pattern in miniature. Water usage (WUE) is the companion metric communities scrutinize.
