Lightmatter builds photonic interconnect for AI clusters: its Passage platform is a photonic interposer that chips sit on directly, replacing electrical I/O with light at the package boundary. A 2024 round valued it at a reported ~$4.4B — the best-funded bet that the next bandwidth wall after copper will be broken inside the package, not at the switch.
